"Are you overwhelmed with anxiety & stress?"
On the outside, it might seem like you’ve got it all together, but on the inside you feel exhausted, anxious and burnout. You might find yourself worrying constantly, feeling stuck in negative thoughts, or doubting yourself. Maybe family life, relationships, or day-to-day pressures are becoming harder to manage.
Therapy offers a calm, confidential space to pause and take stock — somewhere you can talk openly, process what’s been weighing on you, and begin to make gentle, meaningful changes at your own pace.
As both a counsellor and hypnotherapist, I offer support for a wide range of challenges, including:
-
Anxiety, stress and overwhelm
-
Low mood and depression
-
Fears & phobias
-
Confidence and low self-esteem
-
Overwhelm & burnout
-
Loss, grief and life changes
-
Negative thinking patterns
-
Pre and postnatal anxiety & depression
-
Birth anxiety and recovery
-
Navigating challenging family dynamics
-
Maintaining healthy relationships
-
Breaking Generational Cycles
However you’re feeling, you don’t have to face it alone. Together, we’ll work towards understanding what’s been happening for you and finding ways to restore calm, confidence, and balance.
Therapy that works for you
As a pluralistic therapist, I draw on a range of counselling and hypnotherapy approaches, tailoring sessions to suit your needs, goals, and pace.
For some, therapy offers space simply to talk and be heard. For others, it’s about learning new coping strategies or exploring deeper patterns from the past. When working with fears and phobias, I often integrate counselling with hypnotherapy, which many clients find particularly effective.
Whatever your reason for coming to therapy, our work together will always be guided by what feels most helpful and meaningful for you.

Joanne Flatt
Psychotherapeutic Counsellor MNCPS Acc., Hypnotherapist & Perinatal Practitioner
Meet your therapist
I’m Joanne — a qualified Counsellor and an accredited registrant member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society.
I know how daunting it can feel to reach out for support, especially when you’ve spent a long time coping on your own. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and led by compassion. I’ll meet you where you are, help you make sense of what’s going on, and work alongside you towards the changes you’d like to see — always at your pace.
I offer sessions Monday to Thursday, 9 am – 3 pm, both in person from my home practice in Felsted, near Dunmow, Essex, and online.
Online sessions are especially flexible - you can check my availability and book online. Some people choose to book regular weekly sessions, at the same time each week, while others prefer the freedom to choose different days and times, or even single sessions. In-person sessions are offered as regular weekly appointments, providing consistency and a dedicated space just for you.

Additional training & experience
I work broadly with a range of challenges, with additional professional and personal experience in areas such as fears and phobias, perinatal wellbeing, neurodiversity, and family and relationships. Alongside counselling, I am also a qualified hypnotherapist, offering gentle, effective support for fears and phobias, and a trained perinatal practitioner with a deep understanding of the emotional ups and downs of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. I also have lived experience of neurodiversity and support clients navigating its challenges, as well as experience helping clients manage challenging relationship dynamics and complex family patterns, fostering healthier connections and greater self-understanding.
Fears & Phobias
A phobia or intense fear can feel all-consuming, shaping your day-to-day life. Avoiding situations or feeling anxious at the thought of them can be exhausting. These feelings are real — but they don’t have to control your future. I offer counselling and hypnotherapy, often used together, to help ease fear's hold and create new ways of thinking and behaving. Many clients find this approach brings calm, confidence, and a sense of freedom to move forward. Find out more about counselling and hypnotherapy help for fear and phobias here.
Perinatal Support
Pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood can stir a mix of joy, worry, and exhaustion. You may feel pressure to “enjoy every moment” while quietly struggling with prenatal & postnatal anxiety, overwhelm or pre & postnatal depression & low mood. I provide a compassionate, steady space to explore whatever this stage brings — from preparing for birth, processing difficult experiences, or finding your feet in early parenthood. Together, we’ll work towards feeling more grounded, supported, and confident in your role. Find out more about therapeutic support for the perinatal period here.
Neuro-affirming Therapy
Being autistic, having ADHD, or identifying as neurodivergent can make navigating the world exhausting, overwhelming, or isolating. It’s easy to feel misunderstood or out of step with expectations that weren’t designed for you. I offer a neurodiversity-affirming space to explore your experiences, celebrate your strengths, and live authentically while protecting your well-being. Whether you’re newly exploring your identity or have known for some time, this is a place to be heard, supported, and valued.Find out more about neuro-affirming therapy here.
Navigating Family Dynamics & Relationships
Relationships are central to life — but they can also bring pain, confusion, and repeated patterns. You might struggle to communicate your needs, feel weighed down by expectations, or carry hurt from past relationships. Therapy can help you understand these dynamics, heal old wounds, explore healthy boundaries, and discover new ways of relating. Together, we’ll find approaches that feel balanced, supportive, and empowering, helping you build healthier connections while staying true to yourself.
