Outdoor therapy offers a fresh alternative to traditional counselling. Instead of sitting in a room together, we take our conversations outside into nature.
We agree on a quiet outdoor location together, within 10 miles of Felsted, Dunmow — somewhere like the Flitch Way, which offers a peaceful, scenic footpath where we can walk side-by-side or pause to sit somewhere comfortable if that feels better. The session is still therapy in every sense; we simply move the space from indoors to outdoors.
For many people, being outside and moving can feel less formal and a little more natural than sitting face-to-face in a room. Walking alongside each other, rather than directly opposite, often feels softer and less exposing.
There are benefits to being outdoors too. Fresh air, gentle movement and time in nature can help calm the nervous system and support emotional wellbeing. The natural rhythm of walking often helps conversations flow more easily, and many people find that thoughts come more freely when they are moving.
Walk and talk therapy can also suit people who enjoy being outside or who would like to spend more time in nature but don’t always get the chance.
Just like traditional therapy, we’ll talk about whatever feels important to you. The only difference is that nature becomes part of the space holding the session — with the added benefits of fresh air, movement and the natural lift that comes from being outdoors.
